Wizard of oz treasure chest
11/17/2011 10:29:00 amI had a lot of fun making my latest project of the treasure chest. I saw a design of it at the Sincerely Yours craft show in Taunton. All I used was a plain treasure chest, two sheets from Graphic 45's The magic of oz collection, ideo-ology film strip ribbon and two adage tickets, a strip of red ribbon, a strip of bronze tinsel ribbon, a length of chain and distress inks.
I distressed the box using old paper, weathered wood and peeled paint to give it a old wooded effect. I cut out the 3x3 square on one of the 12x12 sheets that had all the characters and stuck that down slightly angled. From the other 12x12 sheet I cut out the wizard of oz playing card and stuck that along with the two adage tickets on the front panel.
On the sides I cut the other two 3x3 squares out and glued them on and cut around them. I cut through the middle where the box opens (as you can see on the image below make sure you go with the box opening and not the grain, my craft knife wasn't having a good day so I have got to patch it up.)
After cutting all the way around the box I went over with the old paper distress ink over the whole paper and highlighted the edges. To stick the idea-ology film strip on I nailed it in place because I had ran out of glue and I had nothing else to stick it on with but I think it gives it a little edge to it. On the sides I attached the tinsel ribbon and chain and let them hang around the corner to make all the corner flow with each other. I tied the red ribbon in a bow and stuck it on top. I decided to stick the ends of the bow down as they kept just hanging off the edge and it did not look nice.
On the inside I cut down a piece of 12x12 paper to fit on the inside and stuck it down with DST. I cut out another playing card and the characters and attached them to the inside. I distressed the edges of the box with the old paper to try and darken the wood.
